Composition and form of release

As active ingredients, 1 tablet of Helmimax-4 contains 20 mg of praziquantel and 1 mg of moxidectin. As auxiliary substances in 1 tablet contains: microcrystalline cellulose, cross-carmellose, calcium stearate, anhydrous lactose, sodium lauryl sulfate, aerosil, polyvinylpyrrolidone, Chicken flavor.

In appearance, the drug is a flat round white tablet with two perpendicularly spaced dividing grooves on one side and an imprint of the company logo (AS) on the other side.

Helmimax is produced packaged in 2, 4 or 6 tablets in strips of laminated foil or laminated paper. The strips are packed individually in a cardboard box complete with instructions for use.

The drug is dispensed without a prescription from a veterinarian.

Pharmacological properties

Helmimax belongs to the combined anthelmintic drugs.

The combination of praziquantel and moxidectin, which are part of the drug, provides a wide spectrum of its anthelmintic action on gastrointestinal nematodes (Toxosara canis, Toxocara cati (Toxosara mistax), Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichucus Eulpis, Ancylostuscostode Alveococus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caninum, Diphyllobotrium latum, Multiceps multiceps) parasitizing dogs and cats.

Praziquantel is a compound of the pyrazinisoquinoline group, active against gastrointestinal cestodes at all stages of development. By increasing the permeability of the parasite’s cell membranes for calcium ions (Ca2 +), it causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction and destruction of the tegument, which leads to the death of helminths and promotes their excretion from the animal’s body. The compound is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1-3 hours, reversibly binds to serum proteins (70-80%), partially metabolized in the liver, re-excreted into the intestine, excreted from the body mainly in the urine (up to 80%) within 24 hours.

Moxidectin is derived from chemically modified neadectin, a fermentation product of Streptomyces cyanogriseus noncyanogenus, and is a semisynthetic compound from the milbemycin group.

Moxidectin has an antiparasitic effect against nematodes and arachnoentomoses. Its main targets are glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels, as well as gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors. A change in the current of chlorine ions disrupts the conduction of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasite.

Moxidectin also has an additional potentiating effect on gamma-aminobutyric acid (hereinafter GABA), accelerating its release from presynaptic terminals and facilitating its absorption by postsynaptic receptors of the peripheral nervous system. The attachment of GABA to the receptors of glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels stimulates the influx of chlorine ions, which leads to the development of paralysis. Mammals lack glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels (the ineffectiveness of moxidectin against cestode and trematodes is most likely also explained by their lack of glutamate-sensitive chlorine channels).

Moxidectin is well absorbed, enters the systemic circulation, and is excreted from the body mainly unchanged with feces.

In terms of the degree of its effect on the body, Helmimax is classified as a moderately hazardous substance (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in the recommended doses it does not have an embryotoxic, teratogenic and sensitizing effect, it is well tolerated by dogs and cats of different breeds and ages.

For prophylactic purposes, deworming of animals is carried out once a quarter, as well as before each vaccination.

For therapeutic purposes, deworming is carried out according to indications. With a strong intensity of invasion, it is recommended to repeat deworming after 14 days.

In order to prevent dirofilariasis, in regions unfavorable for the disease, the drug is used in the spring-summer-autumn period: before the beginning of summer, mosquitoes and mosquitoes once, then once a month and for the last time in the season no earlier than 1 month after the end of the summer of insects.

A preliminary fasting diet and the use of laxatives before deworming are not required.

In case of an overdose of the drug, the animal may experience depression, refusal to feed, excessive salivation, upset gastrointestinal tract, muscle paresis, unsteady gait, trembling. In these cases, enterosorbents and symptomatic therapy agents are used.

Deworming of pregnant and lactating females, if necessary, is carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian no later than 3 weeks before the expected birth and 2-3 weeks after birth. Puppies younger than 3 weeks of age are not subject to deworming.

Violations of the deworming scheme should be avoided, as this can lead to a decrease in effectiveness. If the next dose is missed, the drug must be administered as soon as possible in the same dose, then the interval between drug injections does not change.

Side effects

When using Helmimax in accordance with this instruction, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. In some animals, disturbances in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract (loose stools, vomiting) and increased salivation, ataxia, lethargy are possible.

With increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug and the appearance of allergic reactions, its use is discontinued and antihistamines and symptomatic therapy are prescribed to the animal.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the components of the drug (including a history), severe renal and liver dysfunction. Do not use the drug in animals weighing less than 0.5 kg.

It is not recommended to use the drug in collie, sheltie, bobtail dogs due to the increased sensitivity of these breeds to macrocyclic lactones.

Depleted and sick with infectious diseases animals are not subject to deworming.

Storage conditions
