Composition:

1 ml of the drug contains:

polymyxin B sulfate – 10,000 IU,

neomycin sulfate – 5000 IU,

monosulfiram – 50 mg,

lidocaine hydrochloride – 40 mg,

dexamethasone – 1 mg.

Excipients: polysorbate 20, sorbitol monolaurate, dimethyl sulfoxide, propylene glycol.

Pharmacological properties:

Otospectrin belongs to complex preparations for local use, has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and local anesthetic effects.

Neomycin, which is part of the drug, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the aminoglycoside group and an active inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis. Possesses bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. One of the most active antibiotics against staphylococci, which often cause otitis externa, and shows fairly good activity against Proteus SPP. Strains of streptococci and Arcanobacteria pyogenes are less susceptible. Resistance usually occurs by plasmid-mediated transfer, is most common in gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus SPP), and is often multifactorial. Cross-resistance exists among aminoglycosides.

Polymyxin B is an antibiotic that is primarily active against gram-negative bacteria. It destroys bacterial cell membranes. It is one of the most active antibiotics against the following types of bacteria commonly found in canine and feline ear infections: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. It is also active against Proteus, but many strains are reported to be resistant. Chromosomal resistance rarely occurs. There is cross-resistance with colistin.

Dexamethasone, a fluorinated glucocorticoid with an anti-inflammatory effect, is 25 times stronger than hydrocortisone. It also has antipruritic and anti-allergic effects.

Monosulfiram is an organic sulfur derivative with antiparasitic activity against the ear mite Otodectis cynotis and fungicidal activity against the yeast Malassezia pachydermatis (Pityrosporum canis) and Sandida albicans.

Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anesthetic that provides almost immediate pain relief when applied topically.

When applied topically, high concentrations of active ingredients reach the ear canal, where they exert their effect.

Purpose:

Dogs, cats.

Indications:

Acute and chronic otitis media caused by bacteria, fungi or parasites.

Allergic, eczema, or ulcerative changes in the external ear canal.

Dosage and method of administration:

Shake the bottle before use.

The drug should be administered 1-2 times a day. The amount of solution that needs to be instilled into the ear depends on the body weight of the animal and the stage of infection:

• small dogs (up to 5 kg) and cats: 3 drops;
• large dogs (over 10 kg): 10 drops;
• medium-sized dogs (5-10 kg): 5 drops.

Treatment is recommended to continue for at least a week in cases of acute otitis media, and for a longer period in chronic otitis media.

Otospectrin is injected into the ear canal.

Side effects:

After injection of the drug, erythema may occur. However, such cases are rare.

in transparent PP droppers with a screw cap, 15 ml, placed in a cardboard box together with instructions for use.
