Hepatoprotectors for animals
Composition and form of release
Hepatoject as active substances in 1 ml contains: L-ornithine – 15 mg, L-citrulline – 10 mg, L-arginine – 40 mg, as well as excipients: betaine – 15 mg, sorbitol – 200 mg, lidocaine hydrochloride – 1 mg, methylparaben – 0.5 mg, propylparaben – 0.2 mg and water for injections – up to 1 ml.
Pharmacological properties
The hepatoprotective effect of the drug is due to the properties of its constituent components.
L-ornithine, participating in the ornithine cycle of urea Krebs (formation of urea from ammonia), reduces the level of ammonia in the body, increased in liver disease, promotes the synthesis of insulin and somatotropin, activates protein metabolism.
L-citrulline – an amino acid that participates in the cycle of urea formation, promotes the formation and excretion of urea.
L-Arginine (amino-guanide-valeric acid) stimulates cellular metabolism, promotes neutralization and excretion of ammonia, regulates blood sugar and reduces lactic acidosis caused by muscle load, activates the system of nitrogen-containing enzymes that synthesize nitro the necessary tone of arteries.
Betaine (trimethylglycine) has a choleretic and lipotropic effect, activates metabolic methylation in the liver and the synthesis of phospholipids of cell membranes. Functioning as an alternative donor of methyl groups in the conversion of methionine to homocysteine, it can replace defects in methylation reactions caused by folate cycle dysfunction and vitamin B12 deficiency.
Sorbitol has a detoxifying and choleretic effect, provides replenishment of BCC.
The drug is rapidly absorbed from the injection site, crosses the histohematological barriers and is distributed to all organs and tissues. Partially utilized in metabolic processes, the rest is excreted by the kidneys.
Hepatodject by the degree of impact on the body is a low-risk substance, in therapeutic doses does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic, carcinogenic and sensitizing effects.
Indications for use
Hepatodject is prescribed to animals alone or as part of complex therapy for acute and chronic liver diseases of various etiologies, in order to normalize the function and regeneration of liver cells after endotoxic and exotoxicosis, somatic and infectious diseases, as well as to reduce the hepatotoxic effects of drugs.
Contraindication
Contraindication to use is the increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug (including in the anamnesis).
Method of application and dosage
Hepatoject is administered to the animal deep intramuscularly or slowly intravenously in the doses listed in the table:
| Animal species | Single dose of Hepatodject | course of application |
| Dogs | 2-5 ml | 1-2 times a day for 5-7 days |
| Cats | 2-5 ml | |
| Horses | 50-100 ml | |
| Cattle (adults) | 50-100 ml | |
| Pigs, sheep (adults) | 10-15 ml | |
| * Piglets, lambs | 3-5 ml | |
| * Foals, calves | 1 ml per 5-10 kg of animal weight |
* Note: foals – horses up to 1 year, lambs – sheep up to 4 months of age, calves and piglets – animals up to 6 months of age.
The course of the drug can be extended up to 2 weeks at the discretion of the veterinarian.
Side effects
Side effects and complications when using Hepatodect according to this instruction, as a rule, are not observed. At the increased individual sensitivity of an animal to components of drug and emergence of allergic reactions its use is stopped and if necessary appoint to an animal antihistamines and means of symptomatic therapy.
