Description

Solution for external use in plastic tubes.

Structure

1 ml of the drug contains the active ingredient:

• selamectin – 60 mg;
• sarolaner – 10 mg.

Excipients: dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether, isonropyl alcohol, butyl hydroxytoluene.

Pharmacological properties

Selamectin is a substance of the group of endectocides of the class of macrocyclic lactones. The mechanism of action is associated with a change in the activity of chlorine channels of synaptic membranes in the nervous and muscular systems of many ectoparasites. By binding to specific receptors, it increases the permeability of synaptic membranes for chlorine ions, which leads to blockade of the electrical activity of nerve and muscle cells of parasites, and, as a consequence, their paralysis and death. In mammals, these receptors are located only in the central nervous system. Since selamectin does not cross the blood-brain barrier, it has a high level of safety and is safe for dogs and cats at recommended doses.

Selamectin exhibits a wide range of systemic nematodicidal, insecticidal and acaricidal action, has larvicidal and ovocidal properties.

The drug is quickly and completely absorbed from the site of application into the blood. Therapeutic concentrations of selamectin in the blood are maintained for a long time, ensuring the destruction of parasites and protection against reinfection for a month.

Sarolaner is an acaricide and insecticide that belongs to the isoxazoline group. The main object of action of sarolaner in insects and acarids is the functional blockade of ligand-dependent chloride channels (GABA receptors and glutamate receptors). Sarolaner blocks GABA and glutamate-dependent chloride channels in the central nervous system of insects and acarids. Violation of the work of these receptors by the sarolaner prevents the absorption of chlorine ions by GABA and glutamate-dependent ion channels, which leads to an increase in nervous stimulation and death of the target parasite. Sarolaner demonstrates a higher functional ability to block insect / acarid receptors compared to mammalian receptors. Sarolaner does not interact with known insecticidal binding sites for nicotine or other GABAergic insecticides,

After topical application of Stronghold Plus, both selamectin and sarolaner are well absorbed with average bioavailability values ​​of 40.5% and 57.9%, respectively, and are distributed systemically. In cats, selamectin and sarolaner are drugs with low clearance and long half-lives, 12.5 days and 41.5 days after topical application, respectively.

In cats, the main route of excretion of selamectin is with feces, most of it is excreted as the parent compound. The identification of metabolites of selamectin in feces has shown that metabolic clearance also contributes to its excretion. The main route of excretion of sarolaner is the elimination of the parent compound with bile, taking into account metabolic clearance.

Application

Treatment of tick infestation for 5 weeks against Ixodes ricinus and Ixodes hexagonus, and for 4 weeks against Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus.

Prevention and treatment of otodectosis (Otodectes Cynotis), toxocariasis (Toxocara cati), ankylostomiasis (Ancylostoma tubaefortme), infestation of blood-sucking lice (Felicola subrostratus) and fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.)

The drug can be used as part of a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of flea allergic dermatitis (FAD).

Dosage

The drug is applied to dry skin between the shoulder blades in the following doses:

Elimination of fleas and ticks

In 24 hours and within 5 weeks after application of the drug, adult fleas and ticks that are on the animal die.

The drug disrupts the ability of fleas to lay viable eggs and destroys the larvae that are in the external environment. This breaks the flea breeding cycle and allows you to control the existing environmental pollution where the animal is.

To prevent infestation, the drug should be applied once a month during the flea and tick season.

To use the drug as a compound therapy for allergic flea dermatitis, the drug is used at monthly intervals.

Treatment of toxocariasis and hookworm

It is necessary to use a single dose of the drug. The need and frequency of re-treatment should be agreed with the attending veterinarian who prescribes the drug.

Otodectosis treatment

The drug is used once. Before treatment, it is recommended to clean the ear canal from exudate and scabs. If necessary, repeat the course of treatment in a month.

Head lice treatment

The drug is used once.

Prevention of dirofilariasis

For the prevention of dirofilariasis, Stronghold Plus is prescribed to animals every month, starting one month before the beginning of summer, the vectors of the pathogen – mosquitoes / mosquitoes and ending no earlier than one month after the end of the summer of insects. In the case when the monthly interval between two uses of Stronghold Plus has been violated, the drug is applied as soon as the opportunity arises, which minimizes the possibility of developing sexually mature dirofilariae. In the case of using another drug for the prevention of dirofilariasis, the subsequent use of the Stronghold Plus drug is carried out one month after the last use of the previous drug.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals with low body weight, as well as malnourished and sick animals.

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to active or auxiliary substances.

Warning

The drug is intended for external cutaneous use only.

Stronghold Plus is recommended for cats from 8 weeks of age and weighing at least 1.25 kg. Do not apply the drug to wet skin.

Do not bathe animals within 2 hours after applying the drug (until completely dry).

When treating otodectosis, the drug does not need to be applied directly to the ear canal.

In case of swallowing or licking a significant amount of the drug, temporary symptoms of the gastrointestinal tract may occur, such as increased salivation, vomiting, soft bowel movements or poor appetite. They usually go away without treatment.

Keep treated animals away from open fire or other sources of ignition for at least 30 minutes until the coat is completely dry.

It is forbidden to smoke, drink or eat while working with the drug.

Keep away from sources of heat and fire.

After handling animals, wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. In case of accidental contact of the drug in the eyes, rinse with running water, in case of contact with the skin, immediately wash off with soap and water and consult a doctor.

Do not allow children to play with treated cats for 4 hours after treatment. It is recommended to handle the animals in the evening. On the day of treatment, treated animals should not be allowed to share bed with the owner, especially children.

People with sensitive skin or an established allergy to this type of veterinary medicinal product should be careful when using Stronghold Plus.

Use during pregnancy or lactation

The safety of the drug has not been established during pregnancy and lactation, or in animals intended for breeding. However, selamectin is safe for use in breeding, pregnant and lactating cats. The safety of sarolanea has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant and lactating cats, but laboratory studies with sarolaner in rats and rabbits have not shown a teratogenic effect. Therefore, the use of Stronghold Plus should be based on a benefit-risk assessment carried out by the veterinarian who prescribes the drug.

Adverse Reactions

Applying Stronghold Plus may cause mild itching at the site of application. Sometimes there was mild to moderate alopecia at the site of application, erythema and salivation.

Release form

The drug is produced in single-dosed plastic tubes in aluminum blister packs of 0.25; 0.5; 1.0 ml. Secondary packaging – cardboard boxes containing three blister packs with tubes.
